Meinhardt Raabe is the actor who played the Coroner in the film classic and pronounced the Wicked Witch of the West not only merely dead but really most sincerely dead.
The now-80-year-old Raabe has just detailed his Oz experiences in a new book, Memories Of A Munchkin (Back Stage Books), that he says provides a different side of life to the saga.
One of the goals of the book is to set the record straight about the off set activities. Raabe says ever since the 1981 Chevy Chase movie, Under The Rainbow, was released, people have had the false impression that the Munchkins were randy drunks.
Raabe says that movie was nothing more than a cheap spoof and those rumors about Munchkins being big party animals are completely false.
Although filming the Yellow Brick Road sequence was a blast, Raabe insists that the shooting schedule was so strict that the munchkins had no time for side activities.
