New DVD Shows Kinder, Gentler Charles Manson

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A new film about the Manson Family may go where no other Manson movie has gone before, by showing a slightly kinder, gentler Charles Manson.

The movie, The Manson Family, is meant to destroy some of the myths surrounding Manson, his family and the infamous 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders.

Director Jim Van Bebber is not a fan of Manson but feels previous films show him “huffing and puffing with crazy eyes and that doesn’t explain how he could attract so many followers.”

Instead, he instructed Manson actor Marcello Games to play up the cult leader’s gentleness and playfulness because, as he puts it, “Manson was looking for people who were looking for something and he collected lost souls.”

But while Van Bebber isn’t a Manson fan, he is a fan of his music. He figures Manson was a talented songwriter and if he’d been taken seriously, none of these murders would’ve ever happened.

Instead, he’s now “America’s boogie man” and is called upon by the media whenever news is slow because he’s “articulate, surprising and a good interview.”

The Manson Family will be released on DVD on April 26.
