Comets Orbiting Towards ‘Blackboard Jungle’ Anniversary Screening

TAMPA BAY, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Bill Haley and the Comets sang “Rock Around The Clock” and, now, 50 years later, they’re beating the clock.

That’s because five of the surviving original members of the 1950s rock group still rock out regularly even though they range between ages 71 and 83.

Although the Comets are up in years, they still get down. In fact, band leader and bassist Marshall Lytle takes pride that he can lift his bass fiddle above his head just like in the old days.

The Comets will soon be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the movie, Blackboard Jungle – which featured “Rock Around The Clock” over the opening credits – with a special screening in Los Angeles on March 27.

Besides introducing the song to millions, Blackboard Jungle also inspired many teens to riot in movie theaters but Lytle hopes that the fans who attend the March 27 screening don’t get THAT extreme.

However, he hopes it makes folks realize the Comets are just as good as they were in their heyday.
