Fred Mayer, of Pharmacists Planning Service, claims that Bush has been underfunding sex education during his administration and as a result, kids arent informed on how effective rubbers can be in preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV.
As proof, he points to the increase in STD cases reported over the last couple of years.
He says Bush is trying to promote the idea of abstinence with American youths when in fact, Kids are going to have sex regardless. It isnt going to go away.
Thats why Mayer believes having the week dedicated to rubbers will help get the word out and ultimately lead more people young and old to strap on the rain coat.
It will also help the cause, Mayer says, in that the celebration falls on a week in the year when sex is on the mind it starts on Valentines Day and ends around the birthday of George Washington, who, according to many reports, had syphilis.
