Elephant Poo Goes Down In Books
Raw material supplied by eager employee
Thursday, March 11, 2010 17:19 GMT
MAE RIM, Thailand (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) Using elephant poo to make stationary may sound like a crapshoot, but the idea is one for the books.Michael Flancman runs poopoopaper.com, a company that sells eco-friendly notebooks, journals, greeting cards, and other paper goods made from recycled elephant dung.
They collect fresh droppings from elephant conservation parks and sift through the poo to find fibrous materials from whatever the animals have been eating.
The fibers are then turned into a pulp and refined to make paper.
Flancman says elephants along with pandas, horses, and cows are excellent business partners because they poop a lot.
Just one of their massive turds can yield a half-dozen journals.
The paper doesnt stink because the poo is thoroughly rinsed and dried prior to use.
While giving greeting cards made of poo isnt mainstream just yet, Flancman says folks are becoming more accepting.
They appreciate that Poo Poo Paper turns something useless into something functional.
