Santa Claus, Indiana: Capital Of Christmas Mail

SANTA CLAUS, Ind. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you think your local post office is busy during the holidays, try living in Santa Claus, Indiana.

Each year, the town’s one and only post office is flooded with letters from kids around the world trying to get a hold of Santa.

Every single one gets a response thanks to Mrs. Koch and “Santa’s Elves,” helpers who personally answer each note.

Last year alone, Mrs. Koch says they replied to 36,000 letters, some from as far as Germany, France, and Russia.

She says toy requests are still a popular subject in letters, followed by kids telling Santa where they’ll be on Christmas so he can find them.

But her absolute favorite is from a little boy who simply wrote: “Dear Santa, I want my dad to be smarter.”

Koch says their responses to kids are truly authentic because each envelope is stamped with the official – and highly coveted – Santa Claus, Indiana, postmark.
