William Palmer, professor at Purdue University, says the holiday box office is noticeably lacking Christmas-themed films this year.
The shortage is a huge departure from the norm, since every year Hollywood cranks out multiple holiday-themed releases.
In fact, the only Christmas movie currently out is the revamp of A Christmas Carol, with no other holly jolly flicks slated.
But this doesnt mean the Christmas spirit is dead.
Instead, Palmer attributes the deficit to stiff competition in Tinseltown.
In coming weeks theaters will release blockbusters like Avatar and Sherlock Holmes, which promise major action and special effects.
Palmer figures a heartwarming, sensitive holiday flick is a rough sell in the midst of high-tech films, so Hollywood halted their usual Christmas releases this time around.
This also explains why A Christmas Carol was released so early in the season, to avoid the competition.
