Nick Lachey In Barbershop Quartet?

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Long before becoming a pop music heartthrob, Nick Lachey did time in a barbershop quartet.

Lachey loves a cappella music and says his “summer gig” in high school was singing second tenor in a traditional barbershop quartet – top hats and all.

Through performing arts school, he also joined a six-part male harmony group.

But his favorite a cappella gig was with 98 Degrees, when the boy band sang “Ave Maria” at the White House for President Bush.

Lachey says a cappella is a different rush than recording with backing tracks because it’s so raw, you can’t fake the funk.

He adds, “There’s nothing to hide behind – you have to be good.”

He recommends tons of practice, warm-ups, tea, and honey to get pipes into their prime.

Lachey is hosting The Sing-Off, a four-night battle between a cappella groups from across America, premiering December 14 on NBC.
