Weird Reasons Employees Call In Sick

CHICAGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – More employees are calling in sick with fake excuses, and they’re real doozies.

According to CareerBuilder’s annual survey on absenteeism, 32 percent of workers have played hooky from the office this year, calling in sick when they were well at least once.

Unusual excuses employees have given for their absence include...

  • I got sunburned at a nude beach and can’t wear clothes.

  • I woke up in Canada.

  • I accidentally hit a nun with my motorcycle.

  • A bee flew into my mouth.

  • I have a headache from eating hot peppers.

Overall, 12 percent of workers admit to calling in sick because of something work-related, like to miss a meeting or avoid their boss’ wrath.

About 31 percent missed work due to a doctor’s appointment, 28 percent needed to relax, and 16 percent wanted to catch up on sleep.

As for employers, 28 percent think more employees are using fake excuses due to increased stress caused by the recession.
