Just ask Jodyne L. Speyer, author of Dump Em: How To Break Up With Anyone From Your Best Friend To Your Hairdresser (Collins Living).
Besides dumping friends and family, Speyer says her toughest break up ever was leaving her old college hairdresser, who once gave her an awful mullet that caused her to hide in her apartment for 10 days.
Instead of expressing her anger about the mullet, Speyer did the classic avoider move and never called her hairdresser again.
She laments, I was too young to know how to break up the right way. I didnt communicate. I shouldve at least called her, since we had a personal relationship.
When it comes to break ups, Speyer says the quicker you get it over with, the better.
Being clear with the dumpee is crucial so they realize that the split is permanent, and Speyer suggests practicing your lines in the mirror prior to pulling the plug.
Dump Em hits shelves tomorrow (Mar. 24).
