Nathan Fillion: ‘I’m The Next Angela Lansbury’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Move over, Angela Lansbury, there’s a new mystery writer-turned-detective in Tinseltown.

Actor Nathan Fillion – known for his roles in Desperate Housewives and Waitress – plays the lead in Castle, a new TV drama about a famous mystery novelist who helps NYPD detectives find a copycat killer who’s been committing murders based on his books.

Fillion admits that the role makes him feel like a modern-day Angela Lansbury from Murder, She Wrote – with one tiny difference.

He laughs, “If Angela Lansbury was more manly – but just a little!”

Though producers “hate it” when Fillion compares himself to Lansbury’s sleuth Jessica Fletcher, he’s perfectly comfortable taking the torch, especially if Castle succeeds as much as Murder, She Wrote did in the ’80s and ’90s.

Fillion has faith that his sci-fi fan following – which he’s garnered from appearing on shows like Firefly – will support him wholeheartedly in his latest project.

Castle premieres March 9 on ABC.
