Jewish Elvis Prays For Peace In Israel

MONTREAL (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – With a war raging in Israel, a Jewish Elvis impersonator is spreading a message: “Don’t Be Cruel.”

Dan Hartal – better known as “Schmelvis” the Jewish Elvis, – has always strived to achieve world peace in The King’s honor.

He told FlashNews last year that he planned to embark on a world peace tour to Jerusalem on Elvis’ birthday (Jan. 8) this year, but was unable to make it in time.

He says, “I’m coordinating with some other Elvii. We’re now set to go in the summer, and we’re going to rock.”

Schmelvis believes The King’s tunes have the power to mend rifts among enemies.

He explains, “Jews and Arabs both love The King. Once, I was at the Elvis Inn – a restaurant between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv – and a busload of Palestinians showed up. It was tense at first, but I sang some of his early stuff. It brought everyone together.”

Schmelvis argues that his rock ’n’ roll idol cared deeply about peace and adds, “He rarely talked about politics or religion. But listen to his gospel stuff – he clearly cared.”
