Ian Fleming Autograph For Real James Bond Up For Grabs

CALABASAS, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – James Bond is a fictional character, but his creator Ian Fleming once autographed a book to the man himself.

The pop culture artifact will be on the auction block tomorrow (Dec. 11) by the Profiles In History auction firm.

The Bond book is a pre-publication copy of You Only Live Twice, which Fleming autographed to the real James Bond – an American ornithologist – when they met in Jamaica in February 1964.

Fleming got the super spy’s name in 1952 from Bond’s book, Birds Of The West Indies, and returned the favor to the real 007 by autographing: “To the real James Bond from the thief of his identity.”

The copy is considered the most famous Fleming autograph in the world and has a pre-auction value between $60,000 and $80,000.

And that’s not the only Bond booty up for auction.

Other items include a first edition copy of From Russia With Love that’s valued at $20,000, and a handwritten script for You Only Live Twice penned by Roald Dahl.
