Friends Promise Pie Fight For 50th Birthdays

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A couple of life-long pals are going through with a pact that once seemed like just pie in the sky.

Back in October 1976, Malcolm McDowell and his college buddy Dan Johnson made a pact that when they turned 50, they’d have a pie fight to celebrate their birthdays and prove they weren’t old.

The pie promise is finally coming true this Saturday (Sep. 20) in Wauwasota, Wisconsin, when the BFFs host a pie-throwing bash.

McDowell says 130 of their friends and family will meet at a parkway where they’ll toss pie to their heart’s content.

They’ve asked attendees to wear formal gowns and tuxedos to simulate a Three Stooges, high-society pie fight, and have been testing various pie fillings to determine their “flingability.”

McDowell explains, “We think shaving cream pie is going to work the best. It cleans up easily, smells good, and won’t sting when it gets in peoples’ eyes.”

However, he and Johnson will throw actual fruit-filled pies at each other to make good on the pact.

He jokes that for their 75th birthdays, they’ll throw empty Ensure cans at each other.
