Thats the idea behind the Seasteading Institute, a company thats working to build floating ocean dwellings where people can create their own laws and ways of life.
Co-creator Patri Friedman says, Its a way to experiment with different types of societies. Anybody with a vision of a society theyd like to live in could actually create one.
According to Friedman, those interested in buying a seastead are eager to build more environmentally-friendly or lawless nations, which is something he can get on board with.
He says, Id like to live in a place where drugs are legal since some of my hobbies include taking chemicals in my home.
However, theres one drawback to making your own water world.
Friedman explains, Its possible someone will do awful things on their seastead, but wed regulate it to some degree. You dont hear too much Lord of the Flies stuff happening on cruise ships, so we should be fine.
