Velvet Art Gets No Respect

PORTLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A tacky museum in Portland, Oregon, gets no respect.

They say art is in the eye of the beholder, but Velveteria, a museum that showcases 300 pieces of velvet art from around the world, is getting a lot of flack for its tacky, weird works.

Co-owner Carl Baldwin explains, “Velvet art is like Rodney Dangerfield. It gets no respect. Holding up a velvet painting in front of an art critic is like throwing water on the Wicked Witch of the West. People come in and act all snooty.”

Eventually, though, velvet makes a believer out of anyone.

Baldwin says, “The velvet works its magic. We say it’s a life changing experience because people will come in hating it then leave wanting to decorate their house with velvet art.”

Some of the museum’s prized velvet pieces depict serial euthanizer Jack Kevorkian, a black Jesus rocking six-pack abs, Heaven’s Gate cult leader Marshall Applewhite, and countless unicorns and clowns.
