With the hit 80s song Its Raining Men under her belt, its no surprise that Wash, who was once part of The Weather Girls and C+C Music Factory, has a huge gay fanbase.
Wash says her flamboyant fans are extremely loyal and have supported her since the 1970s, when she sang backup for openly gay drag performer Sylvester.
Nowadays, she often plays at gay clubs and pride festivals, where she hears endless versions of her man-loving disco anthem.
She explains, I love that the gay community makes Its Raining Men their own. Sometimes Ill have the audience sing it to me, and theyre pretty good! Its nice that they still appreciate the song.
Wash will be trying to gain a whole new fanbase on Thursday (May 22), when she performs for police officers at the Cops4Causes AIDS/LifeCycle Team kick-off party in Los Angeles.
She expects the cops to dance to her jam because deep down, cops like to have fun and are probably fans of Its Raining Men too.
