The release of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV: Liberty City, which features violence, murder, and corruption in a fictional area called Liberty City, has left residents of the real Liberty City in Florida up in arms.
Elaine Black, president of the Liberty City Community Revitalization Trust, says, Liberty City is not a crime- ridden community. At one time, back in the 70s and 80s, it was, but not anymore. Were about empowering people and promoting the development of community.
Black believes the violent game gives a negative and untrue perception of Liberty City, and with sales of the game reaching six million since its release, she worries about the repercussions.
She says, The game taints the image for people that arent in Liberty City, but those who are know better. It upsets me and all the people from the community. We dont need people talking bad about Liberty City, because its a nice place.
