According to chefs Sue Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken, who specialize in Mexican cuisine, Cinco de Mayo is the perfect holiday to make tasty treats for your amigos.
Feniger suggests you have plenty of avocados on hand, since theyre the must-have ingredient for most Mexican munchies.
She suggests kicking off your fiesta with a smorgasbord of chips and dip.
For example, you can mash goat cheese into avocados, and add salt, pepper, lemon, and olive oil for a unique guacamole.
You can also throw avocados, tomatillo, and salt and pepper in a blender to make a sauce to pour over chicken or steak skewers.
For a refreshing summer salad, combine sliced mangos and avocados with yogurt, honey, and lime.
Feniger suggests having savory drinks to compliment the Mex cuisine, like margaritas or an ice cold Negro Modelo cerveza.
But no matter what you cook up, remember to share.
Milliken says Cinco de Mayo food is great for parties and the holiday is made for communal dining.
