Patricia Patterson nibbles on nasty foods like dog biscuits and breast milk as part of her job at the Sensory Analysis Center at Kansas State University.
Now shes teaching people in Thailand how to thoroughly taste and scrutinize different dishes, without vomiting, in order to expand the American panel into foreign foods.
Though Patterson has a taste for gross grub, tasting some of Thailands strangest fare hasnt always been a pleasant experience.
She says, Ive always been a curious eater, but I tried this Thai fruit called Durian that looks like a prickly watermelon. Its the most horrific thing Ive ever tasted. Its like rotten chicken. Dog food is wonderful in comparison.
Even though Pattersons job calls for eating kooky cuisine, she still likes to experiment on her off hours because, as she puts it, Why would you eat what you could have at home?
