Be A Neighbor On Sweater Day

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – It’s a beautiful day for a sweater.

The first ever “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” Days are heading to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this Saturday (Mar. 15) through March 20, which is Sweater Day, to celebrate the birthday of Fred Rogers – of the classic children’s TV show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.

To celebrate Sweater Day, David Newell – who played the speedy delivery man Mr. McFeely on the show – suggests everyone wear a special Mister Rogers- style sweater, have a sweater drive for the needy, or just get together with loved ones to sing “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”

He says, “Fred was such a friendly and caring person, so we want people to do things for other people on that day. It may sound corny, but we should be neighborly all year round.”

And Newell is doing just that, still putting on his old Mr. McFeely costume almost everyday to promote the event around town.
