The 31st Annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament is coming to Brooklyn, New York, this Friday (Feb. 29) through Sunday (Mar. 2), and puzzle people will compete in eight crosswords in the hopes of winning a cash prize and bragging rights.
According to New York Times crossword puzzle editor and tournament director Will Shortz, most competitors have better luck with love than crosswords at the event.
He says, Theres only 10 people that I think have a chance to win, but people really come to let their hair down and meet other solvers. A lot of romances have started here, even though they probably fight over who gets to do the crossword in the paper.
Shortz says its no surprise that love blossoms at the tournament, because puzzle aficionados tend to be funny, smart, well-rounded people.
