When the gridiron giants leave for the locker room during the Super Bowl (Feb. 3), Spike TV is airing the Major League Eating Chowdown Championship, a two-round competition featuring eight epic eaters putting away as many hard-boiled eggs and spiral hams as possible in eight minutes.
While the show doesnt promote the highest health habits, it may be a safer alternative to the Super Bowl half-time show featuring Tom Petty.
Major League Eating President Richard Shea says, Not to take any credit away from Tom Petty, but whos to say theres not going to be another wardrobe malfunction? If that were to happen, it would scar people. If you want a family- centric show, this is a safe, exciting alternative.
But Shea says its best to leave the supersized scarfing to the televised titans.
He says, Just like you wouldnt go up against a 300-pound linebacker, I wouldnt advocate playing along. Its a safety issue.
