Disney Channel Starlet Works Her Magic

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Rising Disney Channel starlet Selena Gomez is learning how to work her magic – literally.

Gomez plays a teen wizard with a magical family in the upcoming Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, and she’s spellbound by her new gig.

She explains, “We get to have all these cool powers in the show, and each week we learn a new spell or magic trick. I open my scripts and there’s always something exciting. It’s like Christmas!”

While Gomez and her TV brothers have a blast practicing their Harry Potter-style skills on the set, their on-screen parents, actors David DeLuise and Maria Canals- Barrera, are constantly supervising.

Gomez says, “Our parents don’t have powers, so they get a little nervous for us kids because we have to do all the crazy magic scenes. Sometimes for our special effects we have to get on rigs and stuff and David and Maria are all worried, trying to spot us, which is super funny. I don’t think they’re too jealous of our powers because Maria’s like, ‘I can’t get up there with my high heels anyway!”’

Wizards of Waverly Place premieres October 12 on the Disney Channel.
