War, Paris Hilton, And Homer Simpson Inspire Top Television Buzzwords of 2007

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Like it or not, war, Paris Hilton, and Homer Simpson, have made a lasting impact on your vocabulary this year.

The Global Language Monitor – a California-based company that analyzes the latest trends in word usage around the world – has just announced its list of the Top Television Buzzwords of the year, and the word “Surge,” referring to the military and political strategy involved with the Iraq war, takes top honors as one of the most impacting, popular words of the year.

Other top “telewords” that made the cut include...

  • Paris Hilton’s legally trademarked, annoying catchphrase, “That’s Hot.”

  • Homer Simpson’s favorite expression, “D’oh!” which is raking in the dough at the box office, as The Simpson’s Movie continues to add to its whopping $485 million gross.

  • “Cliffhanger,” which was redefined after The Sopranos anticlimactic series finale, where there was really no cliff to hang from.

  • “YaTTA!” which is Heroes star Masi Oka’s frequent exclamation in the hit sci-fi show.

  • And finally, ‘The McEmmys,” referring to the Grey’s Anatomy crew – including Dr. McDreamy [Patrick Dempsey] and cast – who have a plethora of nominations for the 59th Annual Emmy Awards this Sunday (Sept. 16).
