From July 2005 to July 2006, MacDonald made 14 trades starting with one red paperclip on Craigslist.org, until he ended up with a house in the Canadian town of Kipling, Saskatchewan.
But although the results of his Internet trading adventure proved to be lucrative, MacDonald admits he wasnt always sure the swapping game would work.
MacDonald explains, I started trading stuff for fun while I was procrastinating my search for a real job. When I traded up to an actual house, I was shocked. It was and still is crazy!
And while the house was MacDonalds biggest and final trade, it was a swap along the way for an afternoon with shock rocker Alice Cooper that was his most memorable.
Says MacDonald: I traded an afternoon with Alice Cooper for a Kiss snowglobe, but Alice was so cool, I still got to hang out with him. He brought me up on stage at a show and I gave him a giant, ceremonial red paper clip, and then he dumped blood all over me in front of a screaming crowd. It was awesome!
