Band Geeks Love Peanut Butter and Jelly

TAMPA, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The way to a band geek’s heart is through their stomach – especially if you’ve got some tasty peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to offer.

That’s the beat from Drum Corps International (DCI) spokesman John Denovi, who says drum majors and marchers can’t get enough of PB & J sandwiches – which are readily available to Drum Corps members during summer tours, when they consume about 1.2 million meals.

But even though you’d think the music marvels would be sick of the sweet stuff after an entire summer of PB & J, Denovi says they love the snack time staple because of the great memories associated with it.

He explains, “It’s the ultimate comfort food for Drum Corps kids. They’ve probably had more PB & J than the average person.”

So, as a tribute to the band nerds’ love for the lunchtime combo, DCI is sponsoring the first ever “Peanut Butter And Jelly Eating Championships,” in Buena Park, California, next Wednesday (Aug. 8).

The contest will feature competitive eaters stuffing their faces with as many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as possible in 10 minutes, though no DCI members will be entering the grub fest.

Denovi explains, “They’ve probably had enough PB & J sandwiches. There’d be a rebellion.”
