‘The Closer’ Star Hustles His Way Into Acting

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The Closer star Tony Denison has been playing tough guys and hardened detectives on TV for years, and the actor can really rough you up – in chess that is.

Before he hit it big as an actor, Denison made his living by whacking opponents at chess and hustling them out of their cash with his “chess champion” skills.

Says Denison: “My mother used to say that I was a good liar, so hustling just came naturally to me.”

With his swindling talent, Denison says it was only a matter of time before he was discovered as an actor and given an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Denison’s big break came when he starred in the 1986 mafia drama Crime Story, which gave him gangster street cred and helped him fine-tune his rough and tough acting skills for years to come.

He jokes, “Not a lot of people know this, but I’m the original Tony Soprano.

Denison stars on the third season of The Closer, which premieres this Monday (June 18).
