Talent And Groupies Overrated For Rockin’ Writers

MIAMI (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Most concerts are packed with screaming fans, but one bookish band is seeking a different kind of audience participation.

That’s the note being sung by writer Dave Barry, who is the guitarist for The Rock Bottom Remainders – a band made up of accomplished authors who just want to rock.

However, Barry knows the band was born to write, not rock, and hopes their audiences will have mercy on them at their 15th Annual reunion show in New York on June 1.

Says Barry: “It’ll help if the audience drinks – or smokes crack. Anything to make us sound better. We play music as well as Metallica writes novels.”

And while Barry’s band includes big-name writers like Stephen King and The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Barry admits their true ambitions should stay confined to the keyboard – the one attached to the computer that is.

He adds, “We’re writers, we’re lame. We all sit around and watch CNN backstage to get us pumped for our show. The only band we’re better than is one where everyone’s dead. That and any hip-hop group.”
