David Alan Grier: ‘Playing It Serious Is Hilarious’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When it comes to comedy, David Alan Grier says it’s the “serious actors” who get the most laughs.

Grier is the host of the new improv show Thank God You’re Here, which has celebrity guests such as Fran Drescher, Jason Alexander and Tom Green dressing up in crazy costumes and acting out different scenes.

But he admits it’s the “actors who take themselves so seriously that are really hilarious.”

He explains: “It’s always hilarious when actors try so hard to be serious – it usually turns out to be very funny.”

Grier admits a perfect episode would have movie icons Robert DeNiro and Sean Penn trying their hand at improv.

As he puts it, “We could do an Inside The Actor’s Studio type thing and have DeNiro come out. I can see it in captions, ‘Even DeNiro Sucks! It would be hilarious.”

He says for now the show is sticking with comedians, although he promises to go easy on the judging if any “serious” actors decide to stop by the show.

Thank God You’re Here premieres April 9 on NBC.
