Hanukkah Gets A Swing Makeover

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Don’t tell Los Angeles cantor Kenny Ellis he can’t do a swing album for Hanukkah – because he’s already done it.

Ellis has just recorded and released Hanukkah Swings!, which he believes is the first CD to feature swing versions of classic Hanukkah songs.

The idea came to him a few years back when Ellis was in the shower and thought about doing a jazzy version of “My Dreidel.”

He says the music part came easy, but convincing other people it could work took years.

Hanukkah begins Friday (Dec. 15), and Ellis hopes the CD is heard in synagogues. However, he says the best compliment he’s received is from non-Jewish people who’ve told him the music sounds good at any time of the year.
