Stanley Tucci Avoids Hands-On Research For Brain Surgeon Role

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some actors do intense research for a role but Stanley Tucci doesn’t – at least when he’s playing a brain surgeon.

Tucci stars as neurosurgeon Dr. Doug Hanson on the new CBS drama 3 Lbs. and says that even though he’s been meaning to sit in on an actual brain surgery, he hasn’t done any hands on research.

He admits: “I keep saying I’m going to, but I keep opting out because I know if I do, I’ll be too squeamish.”

Luckily for him, the show’s creator, Peter Ocko, has opted to de-emphasize the “blood and guts” of brain surgery and prefers to, as he puts it, “...spend a great amount of time getting into the patient’s heads.”

3 Lbs. debuts Tuesday night (Nov. 14).
