Malcolm Jamal Warner Jazzing Up His Career

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Malcolm Jamal Warner is best known as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, but now he’s jazzing up his music career.

Warner currently plays bass for a jazz-funk band called Miles Long, and comes by his jazz chops naturally.

He was named in part for jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal and, as a baby, his dad played him jazz music in hopes it would sink in.

But Warner didn’t actually start playing music until he was 26 because he “was always intimidated by musicians.”

However, he’s been playing regularly the last eight years at festivals and is working on his band’s second CD.

Acting is still Warner’s first love, but he says music gives him a creative outlet in between film roles, especially since he turns down a lot of roles he feels are negative stereotypes.

Warner’s music is getting good reviews but his favorite came from his TV dad Bill Cosby, who heard a tape of a live concert and reportedly applauded afterwards.
