Actor Promises More Excitement From Deadwood’s Diseased Mayor

HARRISBURG, Penn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – On HBO’s acclaimed original series Deadwood, few characters are as colorful as the town’s puppet mayor, E.B. Farnum.

Veteran character actor William Sanderson plays Farnum, and while he says the show will most likely be winding up with two made-for-tv movies next year and will forgo a full fourth season, his character’s story arc will continue.

According to Sanderson, it’s “ironic” that Farnum’s village idiot caricature is so popular with the show’s fans because “he’s hated by almost every other character on the show.”

In Sanderson’s words, “He’s treated almost like a disease, like he’s contagious.”

But, Sanderson adds, “That’s what really makes him so fun to play. I even told [the writers]: ‘Let him go crazy.’”

While Sanderson can’t give too many hints about upcoming plots, he does promise fireworks to rival the beating Farnum took in the show’s third season premiere this past Sunday (Jun. 11).

According to Sanderson, “E.B. will continue to live on the edge, and that always raises the blood. He’ll get into another big problem with one of the other major characters, George Hearst.”
