Artist Has A Brush With ‘Vide-Oil’ Paintings

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When you play Super Mario Brothers, you may be looking to reach the high score but an artist in Prague sees a potential painting.

That’s because Jeremiah Palecek creates oil paintings based on his favorite videogames, be it The Legend Of Zelda or Counterstrike.

Palecek started doing his oil paintings two years ago and has since created 15 masterpieces that were inspired by games like Road Rash and Duck Hunt.

He says nostalgia is a key inspiration but he also enjoys recreating “the digital and choppy landscapes” of the older games.

As he puts it, “In Counterstrike, there’s so much blood exploding that it becomes almost abstract.”

Palecek sells his “vide-Oil” paintings for $100 each and compares his art to “a disc jockey who continues to use vinyl even when he can get the same music on CDs.”
