Flaming Lips Have No Scruples About Selling Out

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some rock acts aspire to sell out, others have selling out thrust upon them – by primetime soap operas.

That’s basically the unlikely tale of the Flaming Lips, according to their bass player, Michael Ivins.

Ivins says the band always tried to write their quirky, sometimes psychedelic rock with a pop appeal.

The breakthrough to greater recognition, says Ivins, came after the band made cameo appearances on popular primetime soap operas like Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed.

According to Ivins, the band didn’t hesitate to appear on the catty, often campy network shows, because “it’s not like we had any scruples or underground morals against that – we were like, ‘Sure, why not?”’

It seems to have worked out for the Lips, who are currently headlining a summer tour behind their latest album, At War With The Mystics.
