Film Critic Leonard Maltin Gives Trailer Voiceover Legend His Due

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Even if you’ve never heard the name Art Gilmore, you’ve at least heard the man.

He’s the voice of over 3,000 movie trailers, and film critic Leonard Maltin says without Gilmore’s voiceovers, we may not have ever seen some of the best – and worst – movies we love so much.

Maltin says that for 25 years, Gilmore’s authoritative, everyman-sounding voice sold the movie-going public on “everything from Sunset Boulevard and Shane to The Three Stooges In Orbit.”

Gilmore also did numerous ubiquitous television announcing gigs, as well.

Which is why Maltin is hosting “An In Person Tribute To Art Gilmore, Voice of the Trailers” this weekend (Sun., May 21) at The Egyptian Theatre in West Los Angeles.

Adds Maltin, “When I was growing up in New Jersey, to hear Art Gilmore announce, ‘Live from CBS Television City in Hollywood!’, I would think, ‘Wow, there’s a Television City somewhere?,’ and it was so inspiring.”
