Getting Fired Fires Up Actress’ Career

LAS VEGAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Nobody wants to be fired from a job but it’s turned out to be a growth opportunity for actress Annabelle Gurwitch.

She was fired from a Woody Allen play a few years back after he “rethought” the role, but was inspired by the experience to start collecting termination tales from folks from around the country and turned them into a play, appropriately called Fired!

The play turned into a real growth industry for Gurwitch, who wrote a book, Fired! Tales Of The Canned, Canceled, Downsized And Dismissed (Simon And Shuster) and is now firing up a sequel to the play, Fired Again!, for a week-long run in Los Angeles starting May 3.

Based on the number of people who are fired every day, Gurwitch expects to never run out of stories.

Some of the stories include one from a guy who was fired for passing gas in a small windowless office, another about the receptionist who was canned when she dropped a fake British accent she used to get hired.

Finally, there’s the guy who was fired from his gig writing softcore porn because he tried to “get highbrow” by inserting iambic pentameter into one of the tales.
