Cruise has reportedly paid more than $200,000 for his own ultrasound machine and claims he is capable of personally performing the exams on Holmes himself because he read the manual.
That news has radiologists like Dr. James Borgstede, of the American College of Radiology, ultra worried that Cruise may be putting his unborn child at risk.
Borgstede worries that Cruise might be using his new ultrasound machine as a toy and giving Holmes more exams than are sound. He says since ultrasound goes through to the fetus as heat, excessive exams are risky business and could cause tissue damage.
Even worse, Borgstede says analyzing an ultrasound is not something thats easy to do just by reading the manual and compares it to looking at an elephant through a keyhole.
Its bad enough that Cruise is becoming a do-it-yourself radiologist but Borgstede fears that the actor will insist on giving ultrasounds to his friends once his child is born.
