‘Office’ Creator Doesn’t Envision A British ‘Simpsons’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Though the co-creator and star of the original British series The Office thinks the show has translated well Stateside, Ricky Gervais never wants to see a British Simpsons featuring “Heathcliff” instead of Homer or “Basil” instead of Bart.

Gervais says he’s been in awe of The Simpsons for over ten years, and he’s still in shock that he got to write and guest star in an episode airing on FOX March 26.

He admits, “When I first got into comedy, my ambition was to get a joke on The Simpsons.”

Gervais obviously loves the show, but says he can’t see it hopping across the pond for a UK version because, “You don’t mess with perfection.”

The episode written by Gervais features Marge moving in with his character Charlie after Homer signs them up for a Trading Spouses-type show.

Asked if he’s happy with the way he’s drawn in the episode, Gervais deadpans, “No, I’m having it withDRAWN.”
