Friday The 13th A Lucky Day For Colgate University

HAMILTON, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You might be nervous because it’s Friday the 13th, but it’s a lucky day for the 2,800 students attending Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.

It seems the number 13 has actually been lucky for the small college, which was founded in 1817 by 13 men who had only $13 between them.

Because of the college’s belief in the luck of number 13, officials ring the campus bells 13 times before major events like graduation and the college’s male a capella group has only 13 members.

The connections to number 13 don’t end there. Colgate’s address is on 13 Oak Drive in the 13346 zip code, which not only begins with a 13, but the final three numbers add up to 13 as well.

Colgate coeds and teachers will be playing up the connection to lucky 13 by wearing the school’s color – maroon – today (Jan. 13).
