Laurence Fishburne’s Mom Keeping It Real On Stage

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – After years of helping her son Laurence Fishburne develop his acting career, Hattie Fishburne is ready for her own close up.

The former schoolteacher has her first ever acting gig, playing a singer in Dolemite writer Jerry Jones’ new play When Muddy Waters Wasn’t Muddy, which opens next month in Los Angeles.

She’s not asking her famous son for acting tips just yet. In her words, “I won’t let him come to rehearsals. As a mom you want to get it right before you let someone critique it.”

However, she says once she irons out some of the acting kinks, she’ll let her son watch her, and adds, “He promised he would give me some pointers.”

Because she’s still in rehearsals, Fishburne says it’s hard to say whether she wants to act again. She laughs at the idea of joining her son for a stage version of The Matrix, saying, “There’s nothing I could do! The kung fu, the string and the wire and Keanu Reeves? No. They’d throw me across the room and I wouldn’t move.”
