One Love, One Wine

VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Bob Marley sang “I Shot the Sheriff,” but one of his cousins is singing a different tune: “I bottle the chardonnay.”

That’s because Mike Marley, the second cousin of the ganja-smoking musician owns and operates Marley Farm Winery in Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and produces his own wines.

Marley says the business started as a semi-retirement project because his wife made fruit wines.

He says she didn’t drink them, so he had to drink them and decided, “If I have to drink it, we need to make better quality than this.”

Now his business has grown to the point that it requires a full time vintner and produces two-and-a-half thousand cases of wine a year, including exotic wines from rhubarb and quince.

While Marley is making a name for himself in the wine business, he says it doesn’t hurt being Bob Marley’s cousin either.

In his words, “More people come out to see who the weirdo is.”
