At Least Palmeiro’s Cards Won’t Take A Hit

DALLAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Rafael Palmeiro’s legacy has been taking a dive since the steroid revelations but don’t expect the value of his baseball card to plummet as well.

According to Mike Payne, the price guide editor for Beckett Baseball magazine, the Baltimore Orioles slugger’s cards “weren’t very valuable to begin with” – about $5 – so he doesn’t see their worth dropping off too much.

He says Palmeiro’s overlooked career has translated to the baseball card collector so it’s not surprising that the positive steroid test “won’t have any effect” on his cards’ value.

On the other hand. Payne says if Derek Jeter was caught juicing, there would a “significant outcry” from card collectors who would treat his card like Superman would kryptonite.

But in this case, Payne says Palmeiro needs to worry more about repairing his image with baseball fans, not card collectors.
