Julian Myers is the founder of the friendship holiday, which was introduced in his amigo Army Archerds Daily Variety column a year ago.
Myers says Amigo Day is the friend-oriented version of Mothers Day or Fathers Day and he suggests getting together with a friend, sending a telegraph or simply calling them. But unlike other holidays, he wants Amigo Day to occur the first Sunday of every month.
He says he decided on a monthly holiday because, it reminds us what friendship is all about, but estimates the idea needs at least 15 years before it becomes part of the fabric.
That being said, he points out, Ive got 14 years to go. Ive got to live to be 101 to make it happen.
Still, hes optimistic and claims people are talking up Amigo Day in Australia, Kansas City and Tucson!
