Reach Out And Touch Someone

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Lost touch with an old friend? An 87-year-old publicist has created the perfect opportunity to reconnect with them in the form of “Amigo Day.”

Julian Myers is the founder of the friendship holiday, which was introduced in his amigo Army Archerd’s Daily Variety column a year ago.

Myers says Amigo Day is the friend-oriented version of Mother’s Day or Father’s Day and he suggests getting together with a friend, sending a telegraph or simply calling them. But unlike other holidays, he wants Amigo Day to occur the first Sunday of every month.

He says he decided on a monthly holiday because, “it reminds us what friendship is all about,” but estimates the idea needs at least 15 years before it becomes part of the fabric.

That being said, he points out, “I’ve got 14 years to go. I’ve got to live to be 101 to make it happen.”

Still, he’s optimistic and claims “people are talking up Amigo Day in Australia, Kansas City and Tucson!”
