Thats because the city is hosting the 29th annual Vent Haven ConVENTtion, and roughly 430 amateur and professional ventriloquists and dummies are expected to attend.
The dummy gathering is the largest in the U.S. and will feature workshops on comedy writing for dummies, puppet manipulation and plenty of nightly performances.
There will also be a tribute to the late ventriloquist Paul Winchell, who created the voice for Tigger in the Winnie the Pooh cartoons.
Although the hobby is perceived as a dying art, convention spokesperson Annie Roberts says more and more people are becoming interested in it especially the younger generation.
Still, she admits their biggest fans are the older folks who come for nostalgic reasons and says thats why old-timers in senior citizen centers absolutely love when a ventriloquist comes and performs their act.
