Barenaked Lady Gets Nakedly Personal On Solo Record

TORONTO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Sometimes, when the singer of a successful group records a solo album, it’s a sign that the band’s days are numbered.

But that’s not the case with the Barenaked Ladies, even though it’s been one week since singer Steven Page released his solo debut, The Vanity Project.

That’s because the band members have made a deal to allow outside collaborations but only to put songs written within the group on Barenaked Ladies records.

Page says that freed him up to release an album of songs written with producer Stephen Duffy without fear of getting the other Ladies’ panties in a bunch.

So far, the agreement has worked out but Page admits he was walking on eggshells when he first played The Vanity Project for the band because, he points out, “It’s like saying, ‘See what I do with my other girlfriend.’”

Page will do a two-week tour to support the album later this summer but plans to go in the studio for a new Barenaked Ladies CD in September.
