Dr. J: A Mama’s Boy At Heart – And Hoop

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When it comes down to it, NBA great Julius Erving is a mama’s boy at heart – and hoop.

Erving – a.k.a. “Dr. J” – says his biggest inspiration as a player was his mom. In fact, one of his earliest memories was when he saw a photo of her posing in a women’s team picture where she was the person holding the ball.

As he points out, “In basketball, you let the team captain, the best player hold the ball in the team photo” and says seeing his mom with it “was really cool.”

It also had a lasting influence. Dr. J says in his own career, he tried to hold the ball as much as possible during team photos – just like his Mom.

Dr. J figures to have a ball tonight (Jun. 9) watching the first game of the NBA Finals on ABC and he’s giving the edge to the San Antonio Spurs over the defending champion Detroit Pistons.
