Evander Holyfield Goes From Boxing To Ballroom Dancing

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Former heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield has always had good footwork in the boxing ring but nothing prepared him for the rigors of ballroom dancing.

Holyfield is one of the celebrities participating in the new reality series, Dancing With The Stars, and says before the show he had never done anything like ballroom dancing.

In his words, “I saw it in old movies and always had the idea that you had to be rich and a big shot.”

Still, he agreed to participate because he figured the worst that could happen was he’d be embarrassed.

Holyfield says he spent four hours a day training for the show and compares it to training for a fight. As he puts it, “It’s amazing how simple-looking things become complicated when you have to get the moves and the timing exactly perfect.”

Although Holyfield is proud of his progress, he has no plans to quit his day job. In fact, he still wants a shot at regaining the heavyweight title.

Dancing With The Stars debuts Wednesday (Jun. 1).
