Taco Bell Chihuahua Was A Diva

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Despite the collaborative effort, the late Taco Bell chihuahua, Gidget, got more action than the guy who voiced her.

Actor Carlos Alazraqui, of Reno 911! fame, provided the voice for Gidget’s famous one-liner, “Yo Quiero Taco Bell,” in the late ’90s advertisements.

However, he was brushed to the side and the dog was the one who reaped the fortune and notoriety.

Though Alazraqui was “responsible for half her fame,” it was Gidget who got invited to red carpets and landed Hollywood roles.

In fact, Alazraqui didn’t even get free food from Taco Bell for his voiceover, but did get swag like Gidget dolls, calendars, and magnets that he holds dear now that she’s dead.

The duo met once on the set and Alazraqui admits the doggy diva was “stand-offish,” possibly upset at being voiced by a man.

He’s accepted that Gidget earned her limelight and he and his “barrio chihuahua” voice were merely accessories.
